Made on your device with the same random generator your browser uses for encryption. They're not sent anywhere, not saved, not logged. A password generator that phones home would be a bit of a joke, wouldn't it.

Passphrase or password?

Use a passphrase for the few things you type yourself: your laptop, your password manager, your e-mail. Five random words are easy to remember and still very hard to crack. Everything else: a long random password, saved in a password manager.

Where do the words come from?

From the Electronic Frontier Foundation's short word list: 1,296 short, common English words, picked so they're easy to type and hard to mix up. Each word adds about 10 bits of randomness.
