Noise remover

Just the voice, please.

The interview with the fridge humming along. The voice memo from a windy platform. The lecture with the projector fan. Drop it here and a small neural network, running on your own device, keeps the voice and takes the rest out. Listen before and after, then download.

What it's good at

Steady noise: hum, hiss, fans, air conditioning, traffic, wind, rain, a crowd murmuring in the background. It's RNNoise, a model from the people behind Opus and Ogg, trained on thousands of hours of voices with noise over them. It runs comfortably on a phone.

What it can't do

Separate two people talking at once, fix a recording that clipped, or clean up music: to the model, instruments are noise. Heavy echo in a big room is only partly reduced. Start with Normal; if words sound watery, go Gentle.

Videos too

Drop a video and only the sound is cleaned. The picture is copied over untouched, so there's no quality loss and no long wait for re-encoding. iPhone videos work best in Safari, or in Chrome and Edge with HEVC support.

Next steps

Cleaner sound also transcribes better: run the result through Transcribe for text or subtitles. Need it shorter or as an MP3 only? Trim & convert video does that.
