Cancellation letter

Done with it? Put it in writing.

Signing up takes one click. Getting out takes a letter with the right words, a date, and ideally a law article they can't argue with. Pick what you're ending, fill in the blanks, send. For subscriptions, your rented home or your job.

Good to know

  • Do I have to give a reason?

No. For a subscription, a rental or a job you can cancel without explaining why. Only some fixed-term contracts can't be ended early, but then they end on their own.

  • They say I can only cancel by phone?

A written cancellation is still valid. In Germany, a company can't ask for more than an e-mail or letter for consumer contracts. Keep proof that you sent it.

  • What's 'as soon as possible'?

The first date allowed by your notice period. If you pick a date that's too early, the letter asks them to end it on the first date that is allowed instead.

  • How do I prove I sent it?

Registered post, a confirmation e-mail back, or a copy they signed for receipt. Put the date you sent it in your calendar and keep a copy.
