Deposit back
You moved out. Now the money.
You handed over the keys, the place was clean, and the deposit is still sitting with your old landlord. A short letter with a deadline, a request for an itemised statement and a mention of statutory interest usually does the trick. Fill in the blanks and send it today.
How it works
- 1Fill in the address, the handover date and the deposit amount
- 2Tick a deadline, an itemised statement and interest
- 3Copy it into an e-mail, or print the PDF and send it by registered post
Questions, probably
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Everything happens in your browser, on your own device. There's no server that receives files, so there's nothing to leak, sell or train an AI on.
- How long may a landlord take?
- In the Netherlands there's no legal deadline, but courts treat about 14 days as reasonable. In Germany landlords may take a reasonable time to settle, often three to six months, but must say what they are holding back and why.
- They say there was damage
- They must prove it, usually with the inspection reports from move-in and move-out. Normal wear and tear is not damage and can't be deducted.
- What if they still don't pay?
- In the Netherlands you can take it to the kantonrechter yourself for a small fee, no lawyer needed. The letter is the first thing the judge will want to see.
